Abinitio School of Dance

About

Abinitio School of Dance was established by Elizabeth Scattergood in 2005, training students in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz and Street Jazz, helping them to succeed in participating in examinations with the I.D.T.A (International Dance Teachers Association) and R A D (Royal Academy of Dance).

Liz Scattergood started dancing at the age of four at the Yolanda School of Dance, Brighouse, in 1988, and hasn't stopped… realising at such a young age that she wanted to dance and become a teacher, with her passion for the craft still honing and growing year on year.

At sixteen and with her love of dance ever blossoming, Liz studied performing arts at Huddersfield Technical College on a BTEC National Diploma. While attending college, Liz also attended many other dance schools to further her education in the art, including the Elite School of Dance in Rotherham and the Dorothy Stevens School of Dance in Halifax, where she spent many years working through exams to advanced level before gaining a place at NAPA – The Northern Academy of Performing Arts – in Hull.

Liz began a teaching support role at the Lesley Arden School of Dance at the age of just fourteen, an experience enjoyed so much that she ended up working there for over ten years!

Constantly striving to ever further her skills, In 2004 Liz started to work towards her first teaching qualification in Tap (through the I.D.T.A), and has since also successfully qualified at Associate Ballet and Associate Modern Jazz.

As well as heading the Abinitio School of Dance, Liz is currently also working towards the Licentiate through to fellowship level, in hope of one day becoming an examiner.
